A Summer Day at Lake George

A Summer Day at Lake George
It was a warm summer day up in Lake George, New York at my uncle’s house. The lake looked extremely calm and was sparkling clean. It’s a place where we go to have a relaxing vacation and try different water activities.

My uncle just bought two brand new kayaks and I really wanted to try one. I never have kayaked before and had no clue even how too. Looking at the bright orange kayak I thought it would be simple and nothing to it. Before taking it out I asked my uncles permission to use it. He replied “You sure you know how to kayak Brian?” Staring at him I replied “Yeah it is simple.” I took off on the kayak as fast as I could far out to an island. While paddling incorrectly, I let the paddle hit the water too much on one side and flipped. I was strapped into the kayak so the kayak flipped upside down as well. While getting myself out, I could hear the sound of animals in the water and I panicked. A thought of a Snapping turtle taking off my toe was the first thing that came to my mind. My voice echoed over the lake but nobody seemed to hear me. While trying to hold up the kayak and myself I continued to yell. Luckily I got the attention of my uncle and he rushed out on his boat and rescued me. As I got onto the boat my hands and feet were still shaking from being so nervous and I went back to the house and never used the kayak again.

The Kyak At the Lake

It was a warm summer day up in Lake George, New York at my uncle’s house. The lake looked extremely calm and was sparkling clean. It was one of my favorite places to be at this time of the year. It’s a place where we go to have a relaxing vacation and spend time with family. We would try all different things at the lake such as water tubing, water skiing, and learning to drive the boat.

As the day went on I wanted to try something new. My uncle just bought two brand new kayaks and I really wanted to try them. I never have kayaked before and had no clue even how too. Looking at the bright orange kayak I thought it would be simple and nothing to it. Before taking it out I asked my uncles permission to use it. He replied “You sure you know how kayak Brian?” Staring at him I replied “Yeah it is simple.” I took off on the kayak as fast as I could to a little island in the middle of the lake. Not knowing how to paddle correctly, I spun around and flipped upside down. I could hear the sound of animals in the water and I started to panic. A thought of a Snapping turtle taking off my toe was the first thing that came to my mind. Without any thought I started to yell for help. My voice echoed over the lake but nobody seemed to hear me. While trying to hold up the kayak and myself I continued to yell. Luckily I got the attention of my uncle and he rushed out on his boat and rescued me. As I got onto the boat my hands and feet were still shaking from being so nervous and I went back to the house. I decided to never use the kayak again.

Not knowing how to paddle correctly, I spun around and flipped upside down. I was stuck out a couple miles and the boat was filled with water. My uncle finally heard me calling and came to get me on his boat. Until this day every time we go to Lake George they laugh at me and ask me if I want to go kayaking. It’s a story they will tell every time we get together.

The UPs and the Downs of Education

It was the end of the first marking period in my first year of middle school and I could not have been any happier. I was doing very well in all of my classes and worked really hard to get good grades. It seemed as if everything clicked and everything was going the way it was supposed to. Getting the paper notice put into my hands that I achieved high honor roll was best educational experience that I ever had. As soon as I got it made me want to work harder next semester. Making high honor taught me that hard work pays off and to work hard in everything that I do.

Spanish one in seventh grade was the worst educational experience I have ever had. The teacher spoke mostly Spanish and barely any English. It was first year taking a full year foreign language and it was an honors class. I couldn’t understand anything on the tests or quizzes and also froze up every time I was asked a question. I tried my best to get help everyday in extra help but nothing seemed to work. It was as if I could never learn Spanish. It was the only class I failed and it ended up being the worst educational experience of my life.

The Greatness of Religion

I believe that religion is important to humanity. Religion is important to most people in today’s world. It is something that makes this world go around and lets people believe in what they want. It lets people be there own person and does not make everyone the same. I believe that it is a way for people to form what kind of life they are going to live. It helps them determine what the right and wrong things are. It also helps you follow a way of life to be successful and to be the best person you can be. Most religions have usually have a positive story behind them and you try to learn from them. The religion I believe in is Catholicism. In Catholicism there is a set of rules that all Catholics follow called the Ten Commandments. They are a set of rules that every Catholic should follow in order to be a great person. I was never big into religion until I reached my freshman year in high school. I never thought it was really important at all and I final realized it is. My religion became an essential part of my life and changed the way I looked at things. I started to become a better person by trying to follow the ways of Catholicism. I started trying my best to follow the ways of Jesus and tried be as great of a person as he was. Religion has changed my life dramatically and helped me learn many new things. It has helped me have faith and get through times of struggle. When my aunt got diagnosed with cancer it helped me believe that she could become better through prayers. It helped me realize that God is always with me helping and to always have faith no matter what.

The Meaning of Sports

Sports have not only played a big part in America, but also all over the world. The Olympics is a great way for the best players of each country to compete against each other to see who the best is. People of all ages are watching it on television cheering for their country. Every single country wants to come out with the gold medal, but that does not always happen. Athletes who win gold medals are look upon as superstars and many people in today’s culture would love to be like them.

The Olympics started in 1896 when they were modernized, and it has continued until this day. If you are an outstanding athlete in today’s world, you are looked up to as a role model. For example the Jamaican runner Usain Bolt. He won the 100 meter in 9.69 seconds breaking the world record. Before becoming a runner, not a lot of people knew about him. Just from being in the Olympics and breaking the world record kids know about him. There are kids everywhere who want to be just as good as he is, and he is looked up to many people in today’s world as a role model. Michael Phelps is another example, and he is known as one of the greatest swimmers of all time. Just because he is an outstanding swimmer, people will start to buy his products and look at him differently.
The Olympic Games are extremely competitive. People in today’s culture will do anything to be a winner, or to win a gold medal someday. The Olympic Games teach people how to work hard for what they want and to try to accomplish it. The world today is a very competitive place and sports help you learn how to work hard at what you do.
