The Greatness of Religion

I believe that religion is important to humanity. Religion is important to most people in today’s world. It is something that makes this world go around and lets people believe in what they want. It lets people be there own person and does not make everyone the same. I believe that it is a way for people to form what kind of life they are going to live. It helps them determine what the right and wrong things are. It also helps you follow a way of life to be successful and to be the best person you can be. Most religions have usually have a positive story behind them and you try to learn from them. The religion I believe in is Catholicism. In Catholicism there is a set of rules that all Catholics follow called the Ten Commandments. They are a set of rules that every Catholic should follow in order to be a great person. I was never big into religion until I reached my freshman year in high school. I never thought it was really important at all and I final realized it is. My religion became an essential part of my life and changed the way I looked at things. I started to become a better person by trying to follow the ways of Catholicism. I started trying my best to follow the ways of Jesus and tried be as great of a person as he was. Religion has changed my life dramatically and helped me learn many new things. It has helped me have faith and get through times of struggle. When my aunt got diagnosed with cancer it helped me believe that she could become better through prayers. It helped me realize that God is always with me helping and to always have faith no matter what.

The Meaning of Sports

Sports have not only played a big part in America, but also all over the world. The Olympics is a great way for the best players of each country to compete against each other to see who the best is. People of all ages are watching it on television cheering for their country. Every single country wants to come out with the gold medal, but that does not always happen. Athletes who win gold medals are look upon as superstars and many people in today’s culture would love to be like them.

The Olympics started in 1896 when they were modernized, and it has continued until this day. If you are an outstanding athlete in today’s world, you are looked up to as a role model. For example the Jamaican runner Usain Bolt. He won the 100 meter in 9.69 seconds breaking the world record. Before becoming a runner, not a lot of people knew about him. Just from being in the Olympics and breaking the world record kids know about him. There are kids everywhere who want to be just as good as he is, and he is looked up to many people in today’s world as a role model. Michael Phelps is another example, and he is known as one of the greatest swimmers of all time. Just because he is an outstanding swimmer, people will start to buy his products and look at him differently.
The Olympic Games are extremely competitive. People in today’s culture will do anything to be a winner, or to win a gold medal someday. The Olympic Games teach people how to work hard for what they want and to try to accomplish it. The world today is a very competitive place and sports help you learn how to work hard at what you do.

People don’t realize how much of an impact that sports, or the olympics has on our lives. Sports has become so competive in todays world and to be the best you have to win.

The Olympic sports games have been around for quite some time. They started in 1896 when they were modernized, and it has continued until this day. The winter games were originated in 1924. Starting in 1994, the summer and winter games were divided into four year cycles. If you are an outstanding athlete in today's world, you are looked up to as a role model. The Famous Mitre Soccer Ball

MITRE is one of the biggest brand names to soccer players throughout the world. As the fastest of its kind, it is used in some of the largest soccer tournament including the FA cup. It is a company that sponsors or pays many famous or professional players to wear their clothing, soccer boots, and protection such as shin guards. Over one hundred million soccer balls each year are hand stitched in India, being sold around the world to places such as the United States. Unfortunately, one of those soccer balls being produced is MITRE. Young kids every day, sometimes even six or younger are stitching soccer balls for no money at all. A world-famous company like MITRE should be setting standards for employee rights, not abusing them.

MITRE was not the only brand that had products made from sweatshops; there were some other famous companies as well. MITRE is very similar to the companies Nike and Reebok. Nike is one of the most popular and wealthiest companies in the world. There are also sweatshops overseas making shoes and clothing for Nike and Reebok. There are women and children working over sixty hours a week without any days off or getting paid. The only reason why these companies such as Nike and MITRE have been doing this is to make large profits. For example they would have a child make one soccer ball for thirty cents and sell it for thirty dollars in America. One company that is different from all the others is the sports brand Champion and Chi pants, which is a blue jeans company. The workers their make anywhere between seven to nine dollars, plus benefits. Recently MITRE, Nike, and Reebok plan to make soccer factories in Pakistan, only employing adults, and making education programs for kids.

MITRE has created a code of conduct to stop all of the sweatshops and favor employee rights, which can be reviewed on their website. Overall this company is looked at as one of the most elite soccer companies in the world. It is important that such a popular brand is creating their soccer balls fairly

The Magic Treehouse

It was nine o’clock on a beautiful Monday morning at Nut Swamp Elementary School, it was my first day of second grade. The morning bell rang and it was time for me to take my seat. Within the first couple minutes my teacher introduced herself and handed us a book called The Magic Tree House. Up to this point, I was not very interested in school, and I did not enjoy reading or writing. After a few discussions about the book in class, I still wasn’t impressed. It was now three o’clock and time to get on the bus home!

When I got to my bus stop, I ran inside and started to complain to my mom about school and how the teacher already had me reading a couple pages of the Magic Tree House on the first night. As I started to walk out the door to meet up with my friends, my mom stopped me and asked, “Don’t you have homework to finish first?” I tried everything in my power to get out that door but I knew I had to get my work done. I sat down with my mom and we started to take page by page together. I started to think that this reading thing was not that bad. Once I had finished my book, I ended up getting most of the books from that series and did my monthly book reports on them. I did not even realize it but my ability to write was improving as well.

Reading and writing have became two tings that I enjoy doing in school. Even though I may struggle with writing, it still is something I have liked to do and want to continue to get better at. Without my second grade teacher handing me that book on the first day of class or my mom sitting down with me to read, who knows if I ever would have been interested in reading and writing. Over the years it has helped me become a better student and even help me branch out to new reading materials like magazines and different kinds of books like the Hardy Boys.

My ability to read and write was tested during my high school years at Christian Brothers Academy. There I was told a lot of papers had to be written and books to be read and since it was something I enjoyed, it helped out tremendously. Reading and writing is very important in everyday life and helps us communicate with one another. There is always something new to be learned by picking up a newspaper, magazine, or book.
